Description
Elongated snakelike body, long dorsal and anal fins forming one unique fin from mid abdomen to mid back with 500 soft rays. Very small scales submerged into the slippery skin, protecting it from changes in salinity.
Color
The colors vary widely during their different stages of life, from transparent, yellow, silver to bronze.
Average size
Females 60-80 cm / 3 kg, males smaller up to 50 cm.
Age
Can live to about 60 years old.
Record size & age
150 cm / 6 kg and 85 years old in captivity.
