Description
The Salmon has a body that is wide in the middle and tapers at both ends and like many other predators they have well developed teeth. Between the back and caudal fin there is a fat fin, typical in members of the Salmon family. The fat fin is cut in artificially bred Salmon that lives in the Baltic Sea, the reason for this is to help fishermen to see the difference and not keep wild salmon since it is now an endangered species.
Color
Silver blue sheen with black spots predominantly above the lateral line. The Baltic Salmon feed mainly on small fish and not crustaceans, therefore their flesh color is more white than pink.
Average size
Female 120 cm / 20 kg, Male 150 cm / 40 kg.
The Baltic Salmon tend to be larger than the Atlantic salmon.
Age
Generally about 6 years old, but record ages up to 20 years have been noted.
