Description
This is one of the smallest toothed whales. Its chunky body with a blunt, rounded head lacks scales and has a thick layer of body fat to be able to handle the colder water of the Baltic Sea. It breathes air and comes to the surface about every other minute, but can occasionally make longer dives to depths of more than 240 meters and can then hold its breath to up to 5-6 min. When it surfaces to breathe its triangular back fin can be seen.
